CrayPuppy page 3
Getting colorful like Crayons are supposed to be...
I measured up the tailcone and retainer and smoked out another ring from 1/4" birch ply,
scuffed up the inside and glued it on with Gorilla Glue. The tailcone barely slips past the wide
threaded part, the ring locks it in place. *insert voice of Gunness guys saying 'Brilliant' here*
...After that brief flash of greatness, I happily proceeded to gouge out the dado slots for
canards, and found myself back on earth... Oh well, epoxy will cover up most...
Everything fit together decent, so it was time to take it all apart for painting.
I cut a bulkhead for nose cone out of 1/4" ply, installed a hefty 5/16" u-bolt
and secured all threaded thingys with blue threadlocker. Oughta stay put...
After scuffing up the inside of the nosecone I ran it by the scales, subtracted that from
my target weight and measured 3.05oz of lead BB's for additional noseweight besides
that big ol' u-bolt and bulkhead...
Upsy-daisy, in they went followed by a gob of Gorilla Glue well stirred, not shaken.
Bulkhead got a generous bead of the same glue on both sides, then set to cure under heavy
weight. I use a piece of steel pipe left over who knows what and a brick...
Oh, btw - don't pour the BB's down the side with the slot...
Fin can got a few coats of Kiltz first,
with frenetic sanding on 320 grit in between.
It looked so dull and boring, I wanted to
brighten up its day with a few coats of
'Sun Yellow' Krylon...
Next day the yellow got masked with
blue clean release tape on a wedge
pattern from leading edge root to
halfway down the trailing edge,
and the opposing sides got sprayed
with three coats of Krylon
'Banner Red'

Tailcone got coated with Rustoleum
special Neon Pink that looked like
an exact match by the cap. Not even
close, this looks more like a watermelon
pink to me...  Good for now, but I'll keep
on looking for a better match...
