Der Big Red Max pg.2
Back to pg.1
On top left, Max is just lighting up an AT H97J at NEFAR
(photo courtesy of Roger Smith aka Jadebox@TRF),

on right kicking hard off the pad at THOR on AT F52T...

Talk about kicking hard off the pad,
at the Nov. 2006 monthly THOR
launch I hooked her up with
G104T in 29/100 HPR casing...

Yowza, she took off like a...
like a...   hmmmm.... rocket !
Duhh...

Very short and hard burn, coasted
to about  900' and KA-BOOM !

The full recover harness came
flying out, the piston turned
into confetti and while I watched
the main body come down in a flat
spin, the nosecone, shockie, and
a brand new 30" chute kept on
happily floating out of county...

I might have 'slightly' overloaded
the ejection charge...

Oh well, live and learn...

...and came up with 'Der Red Deuce' - another bash of Jim Flis' magnificent design. Deuce BT
was shortened, an Estes nosecone lost its tip and got rounded off, and three Max style fins were cut
out of 1/8" basswood. A baffle was inserted ans upper bt was made removable in case of 'forward crumple
zone recovery'. She had a few nice flights, but field conditions limited her to A8-3 power...
I also cobbled up a pair of 'Fat Maxes', named Max and Moritz (the blue one) with 18mm mounts.
Unfortunately my printer is on a Fritz again so the quality of decals looks rather Chinese....
Update Aug -07
The nosecone and chute of my big Max are still decorating a treetop, and our field has been torn up
for further soccer/football/baseball development as you can see in the background of some new pix...
I got another bout of Redmaxitis and had to cobble up something kinda sorta Maxish...
There's no place like home...

Fat Moritz in the middle
and
Fat Max on top...
All A8-3 powered
